WHY

Mother Earth Blessed?

We are of the opinion that our farm's tagline, "Mother Earth Blessed," encapsulates the essence of Ferentinos Farm, a small family-owned business. Beyond being just a slogan, "Mother Earth Blessed" stands as a distinct brand in its own right, and represents a unique brand with its own array of products, embodying our family's deep-rooted values of respect for nature and dedication to eco-friendly practices. Committed to sustainable and environmentally conscious farming methods, our farm operates in accordance with the principles espoused by "Mother Earth Blessed," nurturing a symbiotic relationship with the Earth and its ecosystems.

Our poultry-raising practices reflect this ethos, with chickens raised in pasture environments, where they can freely roam, scratch, and peck as nature intended. We ensure the well-being of our birds by providing a natural diet that encompasses both an organic, vegetarian feed and foraged grubs and insects, promoting their health and the integrity of our farm's practices.

The term "Mother Earth" symbolizes the Earth as a nurturing and life-sustaining entity, often depicted as a maternal figure. It embodies a profound connection with nature and acknowledges the vital role of the Earth in supporting life. In ancient Greek mythology, the deity Gaea, also known as Gaia, is frequently described as the Earth Mother or Mother Earth. This concept of Gaea, or Mother Earth, has significantly influenced ecological and environmental philosophies, highlighting the importance of preserving and respecting the planet as a living organism. It emphasizes the fragility of Earth's ecosystems and underscores the need for careful stewardship to ensure the welfare of all living beings.

The use of the term "Blessed" implies that the farm benefits from inherent advantages or blessings, stemming from its access to fertile soil, dependable water sources, and favorable environmental conditions that facilitate agricultural endeavors.

ABOUT FERENTINOS FARM

Here are some ways our poultry farm incorporates eco-friendly practices and respects the Earth:

  1. Organic and Natural Feed: Use organic and natural feed for the poultry, minimizing the use of synthetic chemicals and pesticides. This promotes healthier birds and reduces environmental impacts.

  2. Pasture-Raised Systems: Implements pasture-raised systems that allow chickens to graze on natural vegetation and insects. This provides a more natural and healthier environment for the birds.

  3. Manure Management: Continuous improvement of a responsible manure management plan to recycle poultry waste as organic fertilizer for crops, reducing the need for synthetic fertilizers.

  4. Water Conservation: Implement water-saving practices such as rainwater harvesting, efficient irrigation, and water recycling to reduce water consumption and minimize runoff.

  5. Energy Efficiency: Invest in energy-efficient equipment and renewable energy sources like solar panels to reduce the farm's carbon footprint.

  6. Reducing Waste: Minimize waste through recycling and composting, and reduce the use of single-use plastics and non-biodegradable materials.

  7. Integrated Pest Management: Adopt integrated pest management (IPM) techniques to control pests and diseases using natural and sustainable methods, reducing reliance on chemical pesticides.

  8. Crop Rotation: Practice crop rotation to improve soil health and prevent soil degradation.

  9. Community Engagement: Engage with the local community to educate them about sustainable farming practices and encourage them to support our farm's products.

  10. Certifications: Obtain sustainable farming certifications and/or continuous education to demonstrate our farm's commitment to eco-friendly practices to consumers.

  11. Training: Properly train and supervise employees to follow the principles of humane handling practices of poultry.

  12. Waste-to-Energy: Explore options for converting poultry waste into renewable energy through technologies like anaerobic digestion.

  13. Natural Supplements: Utilize natural supplements and remedies for poultry health rather than relying solely on antibiotics or synthetic medications.

  14. Reduced Food Waste: Minimize food waste by carefully managing feed quantities and using surplus produce from our garden beds to feed the poultry.

  15. Biosecurity: Human transportation of microorganisms is one of the more serious threats to biosecurity. Restrict visitors and make sure that any visitor (friends, neighbors, relatives, or service personnel) wear protective covering such as boots and coveralls. Educate members of the local community and visitors of the risks to their flocks and the need to restrict traffic on their farms, especially poultry houses unless approved by the supervisor on duty.

By implementing these practices, our poultry farm can reduce its environmental impact, promote the well-being of the birds, and demonstrate a strong connection to and respect for "Mother Earth." We think these practices appeal to our consumers who value sustainable and ethically produced poultry products. As new methods become available to us, we will never stop learning or continue to improve our eco-friendly practices.

We are dedicated to providing our customers with the highest-quality poultry products. That's why we carefully monitor every step of the production process, from hatchery to processing, to ensure that our birds are healthy, happy, and of the utmost quality.

Corn is a staple ingredient in many animal feeds, including poultry feed, due to its nutritional content and availability. Sourcing non-GMO corn can be challenging and expensive. Additionally, the use of GMO corn in poultry feed has been deemed safe by regulatory agencies such as the FDA and is widely accepted within the agricultural industry.

* Our Farm buys specialty feed certified as GMO-free or organic, but these options often come with higher costs. If chickens molt during the winter months, we add corn in the organic or GMO-free feed because it is a rich source of carbohydrates and energy. It helps chickens maintain their body temperature by providing them with the necessary calories to generate heat through metabolism.
